Dhaka, Bangladesh (BBN) – A Saudi Embassy official was gunned down in the city’s Gulshan area early Tuesday, police said.
Khalaf Al Ali, an administrative official at the Saudi Embassy in Dhaka, was found lying near outside the boundary wall of the office of the honorary consular general of Portugal located at House no-19B of Road No.117 in Gulshan circle- 2 with bullet wound in his left chest at about 1:00 am.
Police rescued him and admitted to United Hospital where he succumbed to his injuries at about 4:55 am (local time).
This is for the first time in Bangladesh’s history that a foreign embassy official in Dhaka was killed.
In a statement, the foreign ministry expressed deep shock and sorrow at the killing and conveyed its condolence and sympathy to his bereaved family and the Saudi Mission in Dhaka.
The authorities concerned have already been directed to conduct a full-scale investigation into this tragic incident immediately and bring the perpetrators of this heinous crime to justice, it added.
