Dhaka, Bangladesh (BBN) – State-run Sadharan Bima Corporation (SBC) is set to revamp its crop insurance policy aiming to ensuring security of impoverished farmers, officials said.

“The corporation has taken the move in view of frequent natural calamities in the country that devastate standing crops”, a SBC official reportedly said, adding that tens of thousands of farmers in the country live from hand to mouth and the insurance policy will help them withstand the losses from potential natural disasters.

The SBC launched the policy many years ago, but the initiative proved unsuccessful as some of the provisions in the policy were not compatible with the interests of the farmers, they added.
