SEC director made OSD

Last updated: January 26, 2011

Dhaka, Bangladesh (BBN)- The Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) has made its Executive Director (ED) Anwarul Kabir Bhuiyan an officer on special duty (OSD), officials said.

SEC Chairman Ziaul Haque Khondker issued an order to this effect on Tuesday and presently Mr Bhuiyan has no duty at the office.

Mr. Bhuiyan has also been relieved of his duty as SEC spokesman.

On December 19, a group of angry investors alleged that Bhuiyan had told them that the SEC was held hostage to its two members although later he denied having told it.

On the same day, Bhuiyan said at a press briefing that liquidity crisis was created in the stock market as the Bangladesh Bank (BB) increased the CRR.

This kind of statements widened the gap between the central bank and the SEC.
