Last updated: December 23, 2011

Dhaka, Bangladesh (BBN)- Security measures will be beefed up from Saturday in the capital Dhaka and elsewhere in the country to ensure peaceful celebration of the Christmas, officials said on Friday.

Law enforcers, including police and Rapid Action Battalion (RAB), will be deployed at churches, its adjacent areas and other Christian majority places across the country to ensure security, they added.

Police and RAB officials also said members of law enforcement agencies will also remain alert at different luxuries hotels including Sonargaon, Ruposhi Bangla, Dhaka Radisson and Dhaka Westin where parties featuring carols, games and dance performances marking Christmas, the biggest religious festival of the Christians, will be held.

Christians in Bangladesh and elsewhere in the world will celebrate on December 25 as Christmas Day commemorating the birth of Jesus Christ.

The day is a public holiday in Bangladesh as in many other countries.
