Sensex plunges over 260 points

Mumbai, India (BBN)-The 30-share S&P BSE Sensex crashed by 288.06 points or 1.03% at 27,588.55 and the NSE Nifty 50 dipped below 8,600 mark in early trade on Wednesday on weaker Asian and global cues.
The Asian markets fell as jitters over the 8 November US presidential election and weaker oil prices shook investors’ confidence, reports livemint.com.
2.30pm: The BSE Sensex is currently trading lower by 265.39 points, or 0.95%, to 27,611.22, while the NSE Nifty 50 falls 88.10 points, or 1.02%, to 8,538.15.
2.20pm: Dabur India Ltd rises 2.47% to Rs297.20 after the company informed BSE regarding the “Business agreement entered by Step down Subsidiary,” according to media reports.
2.10pm: The rupee was trading at 66.79 against the US dollar, down 0.1% from its previous close of 66.74. The home currency opened at 66.80 against the US dollar. So far this year, it fell 0.97%.
2.00pm: MMTC Ltd rises 7.13% to Rs53.35. The company reportedly plans to sell sovereign gold coins to NRIs through branches of Indian banks with which it has tie-ups.
1.45pm: Canara Bank falls 4.88% to Rs296.40, while Punjab National Bank Ltd falls 4.32% to Rs137.30.
1.30pm: The BSE Sensex is currently trading lower by 281.91 points, or 1.01%, to 27,594.70, while the NSE Nifty 50 falls 81.70 points, or 0.95%, to 8,544.55.
1.15pm: TajGVK Hotels & Resorts Ltd rises 10% to Rs133 after the company said it reported a net profit of Rs3.40 crore in September quarter against net loss of Rs95 lakh a year ago.
1.00pm: Rajesh Exports Ltd rises 1.4% to Rs478.40 after the company said it won order valued at Rs1,206 crore.
12.45pm: Bharat Petroleum Corp. Ltd (BPCL) falls 1.8% to Rs664. BPCL is shutting down its Bina refinery next week for 20 days work for routine maintenance.
12.30pm: The BSE Sensex is currently trading lower by 304.64 points, or 1.09%, to 27,571.97, while the NSE Nifty 50 falls 99.50 points, or 1.15%, to 8,526.75.
12.20pm: Coal India falls 1.8% to Rs324. Coal India produced 273.57 million tonnes (MT) of coal in the first seven months of the ongoing fiscal, lower than the 307MT target.
12.10pm: Oil & Natural Gas Corp. (ONGC) Ltd falls 2.6%. Gujarat government-owned company Gujarat State Petroleum Corp. may hive off the Deen Dayal field in the Krishna-Godavari basin into a separate asset, if ONGC decides to buy a stake in it, according to media reports.
12.00pm: Escorts Ltd rises 2.6% to Rs389 after the company said its tractor sales jumped 53% in October to 8,970 units against 5,862 units.
11.50am: Gems and Jewellery stocks trading lower. Gitanjali Gems Ltd falls 2%, Titan Co Ltd falls 0.4%, PC Jeweller Ltd 3.3%, Tribhovandas Bhimji Zaveri Ltd falls 2.6%, Rajesh Exports Ltd falls 1.1%.
11.40am: The BSE Sensex is currently trading lower by 294.17 points, or 1.06%, to 27,582.44, while the NSE Nifty 50 slumps 97.15 points, or 1.13%, to 8,529.10.
11.30am: Realty stocks trading lower. Indiabulls Real Estate falls 4.1%, HDIL falls 3.1%, Unitech 2.7%, DLF 2.2%, Prestige Estate 1.25, Sobha 1%.
11.20am: Axis bank falls 0.6% to Rs472.60. The stock fell over 13% in last two weeks and so far this year it has gained 5.3%.
11.10am: ICICI Bank falls 1.7% to Rs269.40. The stock fell over 5% in last four trading sessions. The bank will announce its September quarter earnings on 7 November. According to 19 Bloomberg analysts’ estimates, the bank may post net profit of Rs2,641.80 crore.
11.00am: Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd rises 2.2% to Rs1,351 after the company said its sales for the October rose marginally to 52,008 units against 51,383 units a year ago. Tractor exports jumped 68.66% to 1,351 units.
10.50am: The BSE Sensex is currently trading lower by 286.75 points, or 1.03%, to 27,589.86, while the NSE Nifty 50 slumps 93.35 points, or 1.08%, to 8,532.90.
10.40am: Ujaas Energy Ltd rise 6% to Rs37.1. The stock gained 56.21% in last eight trading sessions. So far this year it gained 60%.
10.30am: Tata Motors Ltd falls 1.6% to Rs522.50. Tata Motors Ltd’s monthly passenger vehicle sales in the domestic market rose to the highest in the last four years at 16,311 units in October, an increase of 28% from a year-ago period.
10.20am: MOIL Ltd rises 2% to Rs367.90 after the company said it signed a pact with Madhya Pradesh government to conduct mineral exploration in the state.
10.10am: Majesco Ltd rises 3.2% to Rs447.40 after the company reported a consolidated net profit of Rs7.11 crore for the quarter ended 30 September 2016 against net loss of Rs0.78 crore in the same quarter a year ago.
10.00am: The 30-share S&P BSE Sensex is currently trading lower by 238.84 points, or 0.86%, to 27,637.77, while the Nifty 50 of the National Stock Exchange (NSE) slumps 85.35 points, or 0.99%, to 8,540.90.
9.55am: DCB Bank rises 1% to Rs.130.45 after huge block deal. Around 1.23 million shares of the bank has changed hands in two block deal. However, details of the buyers and sellers were not known, according to Bloomberg report.
9.50am: Banking stocks trading lower. State Bank of India falls 2.3%, Federal Bank 2.3%, Allahabad Bank 2.8%, Oriental Bank of Commerce 2.7%, Canra Bank 2.6%, IDBI Bank 2.5%, Bank of Baroda 2.2%, Yes Bank 2.2%, Punjab National Bank 2.1%, ICICI Bank 2%, Axis Bank 1.3%, HDFC Bank 1.1%
9.40am: The rupee opens at 66.80 against the US dollar, down 0.09% from its previous close of 66.74.
9.30am: The benchmark 10-year government bond yield was trading at 6.809% compared to Tuesday’s close of 6.819%. Bond yields and prices move in opposite directions.
9.20am: The dollar falls to ¥103.71 from ¥104.02, while the euro rises to $1.1065 from $1.1055.
9.10am: US benchmark oil futures falls 38 cents to $46.29 a barrel in electronic trading on the New York Mercantile Exchange. It fell 19 cents to $46.67 a barrel on Tuesday. Brent crude, the international standard, was down 31 cents at $47.83 a barrel. It lost 47 cents to $48.14 a barrel in London.
9.00am: Japan’s Nikkei 225 index fell 1.4% to 17,200.61 as the yen rose against the US dollar. South Korea’s Kospi dropped 1.3% to 1,981.91. The S&P ASX/200 of Australia sank 1.5% to 5,211.10 and the Shanghai Composite lost 0.2% to 3,116.64. Shares fell in Southeast Asia and Taiwan.
8.50am: The Dow Jones industrial average lost 0.6% to 18,037.10 and the Standard & Poor’s 500 index lost 0.7% to 2,111.72. The Nasdaq composite also lost 0.7%, to 5,153.58. For the year, the Dow is up by 3.5%, while the Standard & Poor’s 500 is up by 3.3%. The Nasdaq is up by 2.9%.
