Last updated: July 6, 2009

Dhaka, Bangladesh (BBN) - At least seven school children were injured as a chunk of plaster fell on a classroom at a dilapidated primary school in the old part of capital on Monday, police said.

"Of the injured, four were taken to Sir Salimullah Medical College Hospital from where another one was shifted to Orthopedic Hospital and the rest were given first aid," a police officer of the Kotwali police station reportedly confirmed.

Another police official also said the incident happened because the building was very old.

Witnesses said the chunk of plaster fell on the cute and spotless students of class-1 of Prasanna Poddar Lane Government Primary School at about 9:30am (local time), leaving seven school kids injured.

Panic-stricken students, teachers and locals around rushed to the scene right after the incident. Soon after the news spread, parents, guardians and relatives of the students thronged the school to rescue the children, they added.

The school was declared closed for an indefinite period to avert any more unwanted incidents.
