Dhaka, Bangladesh (BBN) – M Shahjahan Bhuiyan, Managing Director of United Commercial Bank Limited (UCBL) has won “Best Banker-2010” award.
Bangladesh Bank (BB) Governor Dr Atiur Rahman on Wednesday handed over the prestigious award to Mr Bhuiyan at a city hotel.
Such an award was launched for the first time in the country to recognize contribution of the bankers. The organizers said they would continue giving the yearly-award in the future.
The award has been launched by Institute of Bankers, Bangladesh (IBB). Bangladesh Institute of Bank Management (BIBM) under the supervision of the central bank facilitated the award process.
A six-member jury-board headed by distinguished banker Khondkar Ibrahim Khaled selected the UCBL MD as the best banker for the year 2010 taking into consideration the performances on some basic aspects such as deposit, advances, classified loan and profit of the banks.
The central bank chief said that recognition of good deeds of any individual or institution encouraged them to be more attentive in their works in the future.
Such award would promote the country’s bankers to involve them developing a purely professional banking service, he noted.
Mr Bhuiyan, one of the senior banking professionals of the country joined UCB as its MD on July 7, 2008. Prior to join UCB, he was the MD of Prime Bank Limited.
