Dhaka, Bangladesh (BBN)-Islami Chhatra Shibir, the student wing of Jamaat-e-Islami, has called a nationwide dawn-to-dusk general strike in Bangladesh for Sunday protesting what the organisation said killing, oppression and mass arrests of its leaders and activists.

Shibir President Abdul Jabbar and its Secretary General Atikur Rahman declared the shutdown through a statement issued Friday afternoon.
The “illegal government” has been killing Shibir leaders and activists by staging shootout drama after arrest, the statement said.
The shutdown was called after a Shibir leader of Rajshahi University unit was killed and two others sustained bullet injuries in a “shootout” with law enforcers in Rajshahi city early Friday.
Seven leaders and activists of Shibir have been gunned down by government agencies in the name of shootout in last one month, the statement added.
Meanwhile, the Rajshahi unit of Shibir called a 48-hour shutdown in eight districts of Rajshahi division from Sunday protesting Friday’s killing of their Rajshahi University unit leader.
