Dhaka, Bangladesh (BBN) – Secondary School Certificate (SSC), Dakhil and SSC (Vocational) examinations under the country’s 10 education boards began Wednesday morning across the country.

 A total of 0.74 million male and 0.68 million female candidates from 26,855 educational institutions will appear in the examinations at 2,464 centers, officials said.

Of them, 1.05 million are SSC candidates, 0.28 million of Dakhil and 0.09 million of SSC (Vocational) candidates. The number of examinees increased by 0.11 million, while that of schools by 558 and exam centers by 283 this year compared to the previous year.

The examinations under eight general education boards, one Madrasah Board and one Technical Board will end on March 4 this year.

Under Dhaka Education Board, 46 hearing-impaired candidates from Dhaka Deaf School will take part in the exams for the first time this year. A total of 274 candidates will take part in the exams at seven overseas centers under the Dhaka Board.

Dhaka Board has the highest number of examinees with 0.324 million candidates while Sylhet Board has the lowest with 58,500.

The examinations kick-off on the day with Bangla 1st paper for the candidates of SSC and SSC vocational exams and while Dakhil candidates will appear for their one and only Bangla exam.

All papers except Bangla 2nd, English 1st and 2nd, and mathematics of SSC general exams will be held under the creative question method introduced in 2010.

Meanwhile, Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) imposed a ban on movement of people, except examinees, within 200 yards of examination centers in the city during the examinations, a DMP statement said.

The restrictions will remain in force during the examination hours on the examination days, it added.
