Stocks end higher amid hartal

Dhaka, Bangladesh (BBN): The country’s both bourses -- Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE) and Chittagong Stock Exchange (CSE) ended higher Tuesday amid countrywide hartal.

The DSE general index, DGEN crossed the 4,300 points mark again after two months and ended at 4,309.32 points, adding 38.43 points or 0.90 per cent.

Of the 268 companies and mutual fund units traded on the premier bourse, and among them 186 advanced, 68 declined and 18 remained unchanged.

Turnover improved to BDT 2.66 billion, down by 25.07 per cent from previous session’s BDT 3.55 billion.

Summit Purbanchol Power Company which made debut Monday dominated the day’s top turnover chart for the second session with shares worth BDT 194.39 million changing hands.

Kohinoor Chemicals was the day’s highest gainer posting a rise of 9.69 per cent while Fifth ICB was the day’s worst loser, plunging by 4.41 per cent.

The Chittagong Stock Exchange also closed higher with the CSE Selective Category Index, CSCX ended at 8,316.79 points after gaining 56.75 points.

Gainers beat losers 114 to 44 with 22 issues remaining unchanged on the port city bourse with turnover value of BDT 785.04 million.
