Dhaka, Bangladesh (BBN)- Bangladesh’s stocks extended the losing spell for the three consecutive sessions on Wednesday, with key index of the prime bourse dipping below 5,800-mark, as investors were on selling mood.
Brokers said the market observed another downward session as most of the investors continued to prefer booking profits on stocks that saw substantial gains in the past few sessions.
After witnessing mild correction in the past two sessions, the Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE) and the Chittagong Stock Exchange (CSE) opened with an upward trend.
Within first 15 minutes of trading, the key index of the country’s prime bourse rose 13 points while the Selective Category Index of port city bourse advanced 12 points at 10:45am.
After 30 minutes of trading, DSEX advanced 6.38 points while the Selective Category Index of port city bourse fell 0.18 points at 11:00am.
Since then, the market started to decline which continued till end of the session, finally the key index ended more than 43 points lower.
After four-hour trading, DSEX, the prime index of the DSE, went down by 43.66 points or 0.75 percent to settle at nearly 5,776 points.
The two other indices also closed lower. The DS30 index, comprising blue chips fell 13 points or 0.60 percent to finish at 2,121.
The DSE Shariah Index (DSES) lost 7.30 points or 0.55 percent to close at 1,315.
However, turnover advanced 11 percent to BDT 10.69 billion on the DSE, compared to the previous day’s BDT 9.62 billion.
A total number of 0.151 million trades were executed in the day’s trading session with trading volume of 293.75 million securities.
The total market of the DSE also came down to nearly BDT 3,905 billion against BDT 3,918 billion in the previous day.
Losers took a strong lead over the gainers as 330 issues traded, 223 closed lower, 86 closed higher and 21 remained unchanged on the DSE trading floor.
Doreen Power topped the turnover chart with about 2.93 million shares of BDT 441 million changing hands, closely followed by IFAD Autos with BDT 437 million, RAK Ceramics BDT 382 million, Shahjibazar Power BDT 334 million and Unique Hotel & Resorts BDT 303 million.
Monno Ceramic Industries was the day’s highest gainer, posting a 5.60 percent rise, while BD Welding Electrodes was the worst loser, plunging by 9.95 percent.
The port city bourse, the Chittagong Stock Exchange (CSE), also ended lower with its Selective Categories Index - CSCX – losing more than 78 points to settle at 10,838 points.
Losers beat gainers as 184 issues closed lower, 63 closed higher and 17 remained unchanged on the CSE.
The port city bourse traded 22.23 million shares and mutual fund units’ worth BDT 711 million in turnover.
