Bangladesh’s stocks maintain upturn at midday Thursday

Dhaka, Bangladesh (BBN)- Bangladesh’s stocks maintained the upward trend at midday on Thursday as optimistic investors continued their buying spree amid growing confidence.

Analysts said the investors are taking fresh position expecting better days ahead riding on political stability and more sound business activities as the election held peacefully.

Following the previous nine day’s gain, the Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE) and the Chittagong Stock Exchange (CSE) opened higher amid rising trading activities.

Within first 15 minutes of trading, the key index of the country’s prime bourse advanced more than 32 points while the CSE All Share Price Index (CASPI) of port city’s bourse rose 43 points at 10:45am.

After 30 minutes of trading, the DSEX advanced more than 37 points while the CSE All Share Price Index (CASPI) of port city’s bourse gained 65 points at 11:00am.

After 90 minutes of trading, DSEX advanced more than 33 points while the CSE All Shares Price Index rose 114 points at 12:00 noon when the report was filed.

DHAKA STOCK EXCHANGE
DSEX, the prime index of the DSE stands at 5,530 points, gaining 33.78 points or 0.61 per cent at 12:00 noon.

The two other indices also saw positive trend till then. The DS30 index, comprising blue chips, advanced 8.65 points to reach at 1,921 points.

The DSE Shariah Index (DSES) also gained 9.34 points to stand at 1,259 points till then.

Turnover, the crucial indicator of the market, stands at BDT 3.74 billion when the report was filed at 12:00 noon.
Saiham Cotton Mills was the most traded stocks till then with shares worth Tk 161 million changing hands, closely followed by BBS Cables, United Power, Shepherded Industries and JMI Syringes.

Of the issues traded till then, 237 advanced, 64 declined and 34 issues remained unchanged on the DSE trading floor.

CHITTAGONG STOCK EXCHANGE
The port city’s bourse – the Chittagong Stock Exchange – (CSE), saw positive trend till then with CSE All Shares Price Index of port city’s bourse–gaining 114 points to stand at 16,978 points, also at 12:00 noon.

The Selective Categories Index of the port city bourse also rose 64 points to reach at 10,258 points till then.

Of the issues traded till then, 146 gained, 34 declined and 21 issues remained unchanged with BDT 222 million in turnover.
