Dhaka, Bangladesh (BBN)– US stocks closed higher for the fourth day in a row as industrial and technology companies gained from a weaker US Dollar.

The Dow Jones Industrial Average added 266.55 points or 2.87 percent to 9,547.22 over the week, ending just short of a 10-month high.

The NASDAQ Composite Index rose 93.32 points or 4.74 percent to 2,060.39 over the same period, ending the session at the highest point since October 1, 2008. The Standard & Poor’s 500 Index gained to 1,033.37, ending at an 11-month high.

Emerging stocks extended gains to a new one-year peak. The MSCI emerging stock index rose to 889.89, the highest since early September 2008. The index has risen more than 56 percent since January.

Japan’s Nikkei stock climbed 299 points to 10,513.67 as healthy risk appetite lifted shares around Asia and helped banking stocks rebound after a recent slide.

India’s benchmark Sensex stock index rose to a 15-month high amid optimism that an economic revival will boost company earnings and as a government official said domestic demand is recovering. BSE Sensex added 679 points over the week to close at 16,216.86.

Locally DSE General Index shed off 43 points or 1.44 percent to close the week at 2,942.43.
