Bangladesh’s stocks see downturn at midday Sunday

Dhaka, Bangladesh (BBN)- Bangladesh’s stocks stayed in the downward trend at midday on Sunday as cautious investors continued on selling binge.

Analysts said the ongoing pessimism coupled with fear of political unrest ahead of the upcoming national election, persuading them to sell-off their stocks.

Meanwhile, the BNP will hold rally at the Suhrawardy Udyan today (Sunday) which also kept investors cautious.
Following the previous week’s sharp fall, the Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE) saw positive trend while the Chittagong Stock Exchange (CSE) opened lower amid low trading activities.

Within first 15 minutes of trading, the key index of the country’s prime bourse advanced more than 5.0 points while the CSE All Share Price Index (CASPI) of port city’s bourse fell 20 points at 10:45am.

After 30 minutes of trading, the DSEX fell more than 9.0 points while the CSE All Share Price Index (CASPI) of port city’s bourse lost 50 points at 11:00am.

After 90 minutes of trading, DSEX fell more than 12 points while the CSE All Shares Price Index lost 80 points at 12:00 noon when the report was filed.

DHAKA STOCK EXCHANGE

DSEX, the prime index of the DSE stands at 5,330 points, losing 12.29 points or 0.23 percent at 12:00 noon.

The DS30 index, comprising blue chips, also fell 1.68 points to reach at 1,883 points till then.

The DSE Shariah Index (DSES) also lost 1.20 points to stand at 1,228 points till then.

Turnover, the crucial indicator of the market, stands at BDT 1.96 billion when the report was filed at 12:00 noon.

United Power was the most traded stocks till then with shares worth BDT 309 million changing hands, closely followed by IFAD Autos BDT 145 million, Khulna Power, BDT 99 million, Monno Ceramic BDT 87 million and SK Trims BDT 78 million.

Of the issues traded till then, 121 advanced, 145 declined and 47 issues remained unchanged on the DSE trading floor.

CHITTAGONG STOCK EXCHANGE
The port city bourse – the Chittagong Stock Exchange – (CSE) also saw downward trend till then with CSE All Shares Price Index of port city’s bourse–losing 80 points to stand at 16,360 points, also at 12:00 noon.

The Selective Categories Index of the port city bourse also shed 47 points to reach at 9,911 points till then.

Of the issues traded till then, 39 gained, 82 declined and 17 issues remained unchanged with BDT 42 million in turnover.
