Dhaka, Bangladesh (BBN)– At least 22 people were killed and many injured when storms lashed through several upazilas (sub-districts) of Noakhali, Bhola and Chittagong of Bangladesh early Thursday.
Of the victims, 12 were killed in Noakhali, six in Bhola and four in Chittagong, according to reports.
The 20-minute long storm that started from 2:00am also destroyed mosques, educational institutions and more than 200 thatched houses in Subarnachar, Hatia, Companiganj and Sadar upazilas of Noakhali district.

In Bhola, six people were killed and hundreds of thatched houses destroyed in Char Fashion and Monpura upazilas during the storm, officials said.
Besides, two fertilizer and sand-laden cargoes capsized in Meghna during the storm, a local official said, adding that more than 1,000 fishermen with 100 trawlers remain missing until 2:00pm on Thursday.
In Chittagong, four people were killed as a storm swept over Swandip and Mirsarai upazilas on the district.
The storm also damaged over 2,000 dwelling houses, 2,500 acres of agricultural land and killed 20 cattle.
