Survey says three women killed daily in 2010 in Bangladesh

Dhaka, Bangladesh (BBN)- Almost 16 cases of violence against women occurred daily in Bangladesh 2010, totalling 5,743 incidences with three women being killed every day, says a survey based on newspaper reports.

With this note, 11 ministries and nine United Nations (UN) agencies, jointly working to combat violence against women, launched a two-day Inception Workshop in the capital, Dhaka on Wednesday.

The workshop aims to find areas of future collaboration of the government with UN counterparts under the project titled 'The Joint Program to Address Violence Against Women', speakers said at the inaugural session.

Noor Mohammad, assistant representative of UNFPA, and Sultana Nasira Khan, joint secretary of Ministry of Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs, also spoke.
