Last updated: April 3, 2011

Dhaka, Bangladesh (BBN)- A sweater factory was shut at Dhaka Export Processing Zone (DEPZ) in Savar for an indefinite period Saturday night fearing possible workers unrest.

Some 2,300 workers of Softex Sweater Limited started demonstration Saturday afternoon for pay hike, according to reports.

The authorities took the decision to close the factory in the night to avoid any untoward incident.

The workers came to know about the closure when they went to the factory to join work Sunday morning.

Police and Ansar members drove the workers from the DEPZ area after they started demonstration in front of the factory protesting the closure, local police official reportedly confirmed.
