Dhaka, Bangladesh (BBN)-Terming blockade and strike as unconstitutional, the High Court directed the government to take measures to stop such types of political programmes.
The High Court came with the direction Sunday when Bangladesh has been witnessing unusual violence including arson attacks across the country during non-stop blockade of roads, rail and waterways alongside frequent general strike enforced since January 5.
In reply to a writ petition, the High Court also asked the government to explain why the anarchic activities which were going on in the name of blockade and strike would not be declared illegal.
During the ruling, the High Court also said the government should take effective measures against those involved in creating bar on holding the Secondary School Certificate (SSC) examinations by enforcing such types of political activities.
More than 70 people mostly innocent were killed and several hundred injured in such types of political violence in Bangladesh since the political programme were launched on January 5, the first anniversary of the 10th general election through which the Awami League assumed power.
The BNP-led 20-party alliance launched the programme demanding a fresh election.
So far, the government was forced to reschedule the SSC and its equivalent examinations for fourth times.
The High Court also ordered the government to take action so that the educational institutions remain open amid such types of political programmes.
