Fatullah, Bangladesh (BBN)-Tamim Iqbal became Bangladesh’s all-time leading run scorer in Test cricket overcoming Tigers’ former skipper Habibul Bashar.
A talented and left-handed opening batsman, Tamim, achieved the milestone against India on Friday in the one-off Test match.
Tamim has 2039 Test runs in 40 matches having scored seven hundreds.
The left-hander who needed just seven runs to get to the feat clipped Ishant Sharma towards fine leg for a couple when he was on five runs and broke Bashar’s record.
Habibul Bashar had scored 3026 runs and the record was broken after a period of more than eight years since the former skipper’s retirement.
Tamim managed to score just 19 runs on Saturday against India after having got dismissed by Ravichandran Ashwin.
Tamim has made his mark on Bangladesh cricket since earning his first one-day international cap in 2007.
Tamim played his first Test in 2008.
