Dhaka, Bangladesh (BBN)– The National Board of Revenue (NBR) has extended further the deadline for submission of income tax returns by two weeks to October 16.

Under the amended deadline, individual taxpayers will be able to file tax returns till October 16 this year. The first deadline for income tax returns by individuals was September 30 that was extended to October 2 as the last date was a public holiday.

The Federation of Bangladesh Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FBBCI), Dhaka Chamber of Commerce and Industry (DCCI) and other trade bodies earlier urged the NBR to extend the timeframe by one month.

Quoting provisional statistics, a NBR official said that by Sunday, more than 700,000 tax payers across the country submitted tax return and the NBR collected around BDT 10 billion.

Senior tax officials said they are expecting more than 1.0 million tax returns this year from the individual taxpayers.
