Chittagong, Bangladesh (BBN)- The demand for clean liquoring types was good but plainer varieties were often easier with heavy withdrawals in the weekly tea sale held in the port city on Tuesday.

Blenders and packers were quite active with more interest from the loose tea section of the buyers, market operators said, adding that better liquoring dusts were met with much less demand and witnessed heavier withdrawals.

Again the offerings comprised of end of season quality and with the lack of buying interest from the blenders, witnessed a sharp decline in price. “There were also very heavy withdrawals.”

CTC LEAF: 14,334 packages of teas on offer met a limited demand with heavy withdrawals at easier rates.

BROKENS/FANNINGS: There was again only a nominal weight of clean teas which met with less demand and where sold declined by BDT 15 to BDT 20. Prices for these varieties ranged between BDT 120 and BDT 140. Others were also a much lower market with heavier withdrawals.

Medium Brokens met with fair demand but were easier in line with quality. Plain Brokens were a slightly better market and were generally steady.

CTC DUST: 2,746 Packages and 35 packages of old season teas on offer met with much less demand. All grades were again a lower market easing by BDT 10 to BDT 20 with heavier withdrawals.

There was a little more interest from the blenders this week but loose tea buyers were quiet. Well made small Brokens were a bright feature of the sale whilst all others were easier with quality particularly towards the end where prices declined by up to BDT 10 with heavy withdrawals.  Dusts were a lower market following much less competition.
