Three killed at ship breaking yard in Bangladesh

Chittagong, Bangladesh (BBN) – Three workers of a ship-breaking yard were crushed to death when a heavy iron plate fell on them at Madambibir Hat under Sitakunda upazila in Chittagong on Saturday, police said.

A heavy iron plate suddenly fell on the three workers leaving them dead on the spot while working at the yard of Sima Steel, a local police official confirmed.

On March 5, 2009, the Supreme Court directed the government to ensure safety of those working at ship-breaking yards.
