Dhaka, Bangladesh (BBN) - Prominent economist Wahiduddin Mahmud, former cabinet secretary Ali Imam Majumder, and former power secretary Muhammad Fouzul Kabir Khan are expected to be appointed as advisers in the newly formed interim government of Bangladesh.
According to sources within the Cabinet Division, the three individuals are likely to be sworn in as new advisers tomorrow.
With their inclusion, the Advisory Council of the interim government will expand to 20 members.
Reports indicate that Wahiduddin Mahmud, who previously served as an adviser to the caretaker government in 1996, Ali Imam Majumder, who was appointed as special assistant to the Chief Adviser on August 12, and Muhammad Fouzul Kabir Khan have all received invitations to take the oath.
Earlier today, the Bangabhaban press wing issued a press release confirming that the new advisers would be sworn in tomorrow (Friday).
President's Press Secretary Md Joynal Abedin informed BSS that four or five new advisers are scheduled to take the oath as members of the interim government, led by Chief Adviser Dr. Muhammad Yunus, in a ceremony at Bangabhaban tomorrow afternoon.
Sources also revealed that the Cabinet Division has instructed the Department of Government Transport to prepare five vehicles for the swearing-in ceremony.
The new advisers are likely to be assigned responsibilities for the Ministry of Education, Ministry of Road Transport and Bridges, Ministry of Agriculture, Ministry of Public Administration, Ministry of Commerce, and Ministry of Power, Energy, and Mineral Resources.
Earlier, a 17-member Advisory Council of the interim government, led by Prof. Dr. Muhammad Yunus, was sworn-in in three phases starting on August 8, following the fall of the Sheikh Hasina government in the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement. Sheikh Hasina resigned and fled to India on August 5.
On that day, the cabinet was dissolved, and on August 6, the President dissolved the 12th Jatiya Sangsad.
