Dhaka, Bangladesh (BBN)- Southeastern three districts –Chittagong, Bandarban and Cox's Bazar – of Bangladesh cut off from the rest of the country as transport owners and workers enforced a 16-hour strike from Sunday morning to protest the killing of a bus driver.
Md Jasim Uddin, a driver of Trisha Paribahan, was shot dead during a mass robbery at five buses on Chittagong-Cox's Bazar highway at Chakoria upazila in Cox's Bazar around 8:00pm on Friday.
Arakan Road Transport Labour Union of Chittagong and Cox's Bazaar District Paribahan Malik-Sramik Somonnoy Committee enforced the strike to realise their three points demands.
Transport movement on 19 routes in the three districts came to a halt due to the strike triggering immense sufferings for tourists as the tourist season just began, according to reports.
