Chittagong, Bangladesh (BBN)– A man died and 26 people went missing as a fishing trawler capsized in the Bay of Bengal, on the outskirts of Saint Martin’s Island, early Friday.
FV Bandhan, a fishing boat, capsized with 29 crews on board about 30 nautical miles northwest off the coast of Saint Martins’ Island around 5:00 am while it was going into the deep sea for fishing, according to reports.
On information, Navy patrol ship ‘Samudra Joy’ rushed in and rescued two people and recovered the body of another while the others went missing.
The deceased was identified as Lavlu while the two rescued as Sajib Hossain, a junior officer of the trawler, and Nasir, a crew member, said an official of Bengal Fisheries Limited Mohammad Nasir Uddin.
However, two Navy ships–BNS Atandra and BNS Sagor–and a maritime patrol aircraft along with ‘Samudra Joy’ and Coast Guard team members were conducting operation to trace out the missing people, the reports said.
