Trawler carrying over 100 passengers sinks in Bangladesh

Noakhali, Bangladesh (BBN)- A trawler carrying more than 100 passengers on board sank in the Meghna River in the country’s southeastern Noakhali district on Friday, police said.
The trawler, ‘Rebeka’,that left Nalchira ghat around 9:00 am (local time) hit an emerging shoal and sank in the river around 11 am while heading towards Chairmanghat area at Hatia Upazila of the district, a local police official said.
Hearing the screams of people, locals rushed to the spot in speedboats and trawlers and rescued most of the passengers, the police official added.
He, however, could not exactly say how many passengers remain missing.
