Dhaka, Bangladesh (BBN)– Two moderate earthquakes jolted different parts of the country, including the capital Dhaka, Friday night prompting many panic stricken city dwellers coming out of their residences and taking shelter in the streets and on open spaces.

Panicked people especially in Old Dhaka and Mirpur areas, came out of their homes after the quakes jolted their houses, witnesses said.

Met office said, the second quake 4.6 on the Richter scale hit the country at 11:24pm (local time). The epicenter of the earthquake was located in Madaripur-Gopalganj regions, 71 kilometers south southwest of Bangladesh Metrological Department Seismic Center in Dhaka.

The first quake hit the country at about 11:18am, but no reports of casualties have been received from anywhere.

The earthquakes were felt in different parts of the country including Dhaka, Narayanganj, Gazipur, Manikganj, Munshiganj, Jamalpur, Tangail, Sirajganj, Kishoreganj, Natore, Pabna, Brahmanbaria, Comilla, Chandpur, Narsingdi, Habiganj, Bagerhat, Kushtia, Magura, Khulna, Bhairab, Laxmipur, Feni, Noakhali, Shariatpur, Madaripur, Barisal, Bhola and Gopalganj within the span of nearly one hour from 10:42pm.
