Tripura governor calls on Bangladesh foreign minister

Dhaka, Bangladesh (BBN)- Governor of Tripura Padmashree D Y Patil on Monday called on the Bangladesh Foreign Minister Dipu Moni, MP. 
The governor arrived in Bangladesh on March 19 on a four-day visit at the invitation of the Bangladesh foreign minister, a foreign ministry press statement said on Tuesday.
Recalling the important role of the people of Tripura during the War of Liberation of Bangladesh, the foreign minister expressed deep appreciation for the initiative of the government of Tripura for erecting the statue of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and the Maitri Udyan at Chottakhola in Tripura.
She also said that this rich tribute exemplifies the historic relation that Bangladesh enjoys with India and particularly with Tripura. 
The foreign minister added that this will also remain as an inspiration to freedom loving people all over the world. 
She requested the governor to take initiative to ensure that the historic sites in Tripura associated with the War of Liberation, including the graves of many martyrs are properly maintained. 
The foreign minister also referred to the potential for export of Bangladesh products into Tripura and expressed the hope that the Tripura government would facilitate market access to encourage exports from Bangladesh to Tripura. 
She also referred to the initiatives taken to improve connectivity with Tripura including the Akhaura-Agartala rail link, declaring Ashuganj as a port of call, declaring Ramgarh-Sabroom as new Land Customs Station, and noted that these would have far reaching impact on the socio-economic development of not only Bangladesh and Tripura but also the entire region. 
Appreciating the initiatives of the present government of Bangladesh to further strengthen the relations between Bangladesh and India, the governor observed that the foreign minister’s visit to Tripura in November last year would provide further impetus to Bangladesh India relations, particularly with Tripura. 
He also observed that there was huge scope for enhancing the relations between Bangladesh and Tripura.
