UN envoy holds talks with Indonesian officials on Burma issue

Jakarta, Indonesia (BBN) - The United Nations envoy held talks on Tuesday in Jakarta with senior Indonesian officials as part of his continuing consultations with regional leaders on Burma.

Ibrahim Gambari, the Secretary-General’s Special Advisor on Myanmar, arrived in the capital on early Tuesday and then met with Foreign Minister Hassan Wirajuda.

This visit follows consultations in Thailand and a six-day visit to Burma, officially known as Myanmar, itself.

The two men held extensive and constructive exchanges of views on the current situation in Myanmar, as well as the way forward in support of the good offices of the Secretary-General, UN spokesperson Michele Montas told reporters, according to a UN press statement.


On Wednesday, the special adviser is slated to meet Indonesian President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono and other officials before travelling on to Turin to brief Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon on the latest developments.
