DHAKA, Bangladesh (BBN)– UNICEF Executive Director Anthony Lake starts a three-day mission to Bangladesh on Saturday to highlight the challenges faced by children and women.

While in Bangladesh, Mr. Lake will visit UNICEF supported programs to see the difficulties faced by marginalized and working children.

Mr. Lake will also meet the Prime Minister, the Minister of Foreign Affairs, the Minister of Finance and the Minister of Health to discuss opportunities offered by UNICEF’s new country program (2012-2016), a UNICEF press statement said on Saturday.

Mr. Lake became the sixth Executive Director of UNICEF on 1 May 2010, bringing with him more than 45 years of public service. Immediately prior to his appointment with UNICEF, Mr. Lake served as Distinguished Professor in the Practice of Diplomacy at the Edmund A. Walsh School of Foreign Service at Georgetown University.

He obtained a B.A. degree from Harvard in 1961, read international economics at Trinity College, Cambridge, and went on to receive his Ph.D. from the Woodrow Wilson School of Public and International Affairs at Princeton University in 1974.
