United Power Generation & Distribution Company LtdDhaka, Bangladesh (BBN)– United Power Generation & Distribution Company dominated the Dhaka bourse’s turnover chart last week that ended on Thursday.

Analysts said investors showed their buying appetite on United Power shares amid expectation of higher earnings as the company is going to organise half yearly 2018-19 financial performance disclosure session on Sunday.

According to statistics from the DSE, about 5.02 million shares of United Power were traded, generating a turnover of BDT 1.93 billion, which was 3.74 percent of the DSE’s total turnover.

The week’s total turnover on the DSE stood at BDT 51.71 billion last week, registering an increase of 7.12 percent over the week before.

The power generation company’s share price closed at BDT 391.30 on Thursday, the last trading day of the week, gaining 5.30 percent over the previous week.

The United Power, which was listed on the DSE in 2015, disbursed 90 percent cash and 20 percent stock dividend for the year ended on June 30, 2018.

The company’s consolidated earnings per share (EPS) stood at BDT 3.71 for July-September, 2018 as against BDT 2.23 for July-September, 2017.

The company’s paid-up capital is BDT 4.70 billion, authorised capital is BDT 8.0 billion and the total number of securities is 479.08 million.

The sponsor-directors own 90 percent stake in the company, while institutional investors own 5.43 percent, foreign investors 0.13 percent and the general public 4.44 percent as of December 31, 2018.

Premier Bank followed next, with shares worth BDT 1.62 billion changing hands. The bank’s share closed at BDT 16.40, losing 4.09 percent over the previous week.

Grameenphone clinched the third spot, with shares worth BDT 1.34 billion changing hands. The largest market-cap company’s share advanced 0.68 percent to close at BDT 398.20.

Eastern Housing emerged fourth with shares worth BDT 1.29 billion changing hands. Its share closed at BDT 61.90 each, soaring 10.54 percent.

United Finance notched the fifth spot, with shares worth BDT 824 million changing hands. The company’s share price fell 10.83 percent to close at BDT 27.56.

The turnover of Square Pharmaceuticals was BDT 789 million. The company’s share price shed 0.64 percent to close at BDT 263.30.

Eastland featured a turnover of BDT 724 million. The company’s share price closed at BDT 21.09 each, soaring 10.76 percent.

The turnover of Bangladesh Submarine Cable Company was BDT 714 million. The state-run company’s share closed at BDT 141.70 each, advancing 10.19 percent over the previous week.

Provati Insurance featured a turnover of BDT 637 million. The company’s share price jumped 54.50 percent to close at BDT 39.40. It’s also the week’s top gainer.

BBS Cables was also included in the top 10 turnover chart with shares of BDT 633 million changing hands. The company’s share price closed at BDT 141.70, losing 3.83 percent over the previous week.
