Dhaka, Bangladesh (BBN)- U.S. Ambassador-at-Large Luis CdeBaca, is in the capital Dhaka for a two-day visit in an effort to fight illegal trafficking of persons and facilitate safe labor migration.
“He is in Bangladesh as part of efforts between the Government of Bangladesh and the United States to fight illegal trafficking in persons and facilitate safe labor migration,” a US embassy press statement said in Dhaka on Sunday.
During the visit, he will meet with government officials, civil society organizations, and representatives of the Bangladesh Association of International Recruiting Agencies (BAIRA).
Appointed by President Obama in May 2009, Ambassador CdeBaca formerly served in the U.S. Justice Department.  At the Justice Department, he was one of the country’s most-decorated federal prosecutors, leading the investigation and prosecution of cases involving money laundering, organized crime, alien smuggling, official misconduct, hate crimes, and human trafficking.
He was honored with the Attorney General’s Distinguished Service Award for his service as lead trial counsel in the then largest slavery prosecution in U.S. history, which involved the enslavement of over 300 Vietnamese and Chinese workers in a garment factory in American Samoa.
