Dhaka, Bangladesh (BBN) – Cobb-Vantress, a US poultry breeding company, is planning to expand business in Bangladesh as it finds the country’s broiler market growing.

Currently, the US company grabs around 15 per cent share in the Bangladesh’s imported broiler breeding stocks while Hubbard, a brand of broiler breeding stocks from French poultry industry giant Groupe Grimaud captures major market share, the New Age, a local newspaper, reported quoting industry sources.

Cobb-Vantress appointed three Bangladeshi dealers — CP Poultry, Sanowara Agro and Kashila Poultry – for aggressive marketing of its products, especially the broiler breeding stocks.

Ismail Hossian, a wholesale chicks trader at Nimtali market in Dhaka, told the newspaper that growers are more cautious in procuring day-old chicks from reliable parent chickens. ‘As bird flu hit hard the country’s poultry industry, growers also search for more disease resistant chicks produced by advanced research-oriented industry,’ he said Cobb-Vantress claimed it as the world’s oldest poultry breeding company which begun operation in 1916 in Massachusetts in USA.
