Dhaka, Bangladesh (BBN)– US Congresswoman Betty McCollum has praised the energy and enthusiasm of the people of Bangladesh, particularly the women, in advancing the socioeconomic condition of the country.

Maccillum assured of extending her full support for Bangladesh’s fight against climate change debacle saying it is an international responsibility to address the problems.

She made the assurance during a meeting with Foreign Minister Dipu Moni at her ministry on Monday.

MaCollum, now in Bangladesh to see the country’s progress in promoting the role of women and girls in politics and society, praised the progresses Bangladesh has been making in social sector, including the empowerment of women.

Appreciating the US support in the areas of health, food security, climate change, counter terrorism and education, Dipu Moni urged the Congresswoman to use her good office in order to reduce the high tariff levied on the RMG products of Bangladesh entering the US market.

She said this issue has linkage with the chain of a host of socioeconomic issues which include poverty alleviation, women empowerment, health and education.

The foreign minister also sought support for bringing back the killer of Bangbandhu from the US in order to ensure justice.

Dipu Moni also urged the Congresswoman to use her good offices in order to reduce the high tariff levied on the RMG products of Bangladesh entering into US market as this issue has linkage with the chain of a host of socio-economic issues which include poverty alleviation, women empowerment, health, education and so on.
