Dhaka, Bangladesh (BBN)– The US dollar gained further against Bangladesh Taka (BDT) on Thursday despite central bank intervention in the market through sale of the greenback to commercial banks.

“We’ve sold US$46 million at market rate to four commercial banks on the day to meet the growing demand for the US dollar,” a senior official of the Bangladesh Bank (BB)

The US dollar was quoted at BDT 70.4000-BDT 70.5300 in the inter-bank foreign exchange market on the day against BDT 70.1000-BDT 70.3300 of the previously, market operators said.

The central bank began intervention in the foreign exchange market through selling the US dollar to the commercial banks more than a ago aiming to keep the market stable.

On Wednesday, the BB similarly sold $27 million to three commercial banks.

On the other hand, the inter-bank call money rate remained almost unchanged in the range between 3.50 per cent and 5.50 per cent on Thursday due to increased inflow of fresh fund into the market.
