Dhaka, Bangladesh (BBN)– The US dollar gained further slightly against Bangladesh Taka (BDT) on Tuesday mainly due to short supply of the greenback in the inter-bank foreign exchange market, officials said.

“The upward trend is likely to continue in the near future with growing demand for the US dollar to settle import payments,” a senior treasury official of a commercial bank said, adding that the rise has been attributed to settlement of import payments, mainly for petroleum products.
The US dollar was quoted at BDT 69.6950-BDT 69.7300 in the inter-bank foreign exchange market on the day against BDT 69.6600 –BDT 69.6950 of the previous working day, market operators said.
On the other hand, the inter-bank call money rate remained steady in the range between 4.50 per cent and 7.50 per cent on Tuesday due to increased inflow of fund into the market.
