Dhaka, Bangladesh (BBN) - US dollar maintained a stable trend against Bangladesh taka (BDT) in the inter-bank foreign exchange market last week due to sufficient supply of the greenback that diffused the increased demand, treasury official said.
The inter-bank exchange rate of dollar stood at BDT 68.52 against the previous week's price at BDT 68.51 and BDT 68.52.
The US currency, however, weakened in public deals and it was mostly exchanged at rates varying between BDT 67.35 and BDT 69.80 against the previous week's range between BDT 67.44 and BDT 70.00, they added.
The spot transactions in US dollar stood at around at $86 million in total in the week against the previous week's total of about $ 56 million that reflected increase in demand for the greenback, according to reports.
The central bank of Bangladesh conducted strong monitoring and supervision of the activities of the dealer banks for checking unnecessary transactions in dollar to ensure discipline in the country’s inter-bank foreign exchange market.
