Dhaka, Bangladesh (BBN) – The U.S. Department of State released on Monday its 2011 annual report on International Religious Freedom around the globe, including a country report on Bangladesh.
The report highlights steps the Bangladeshi government has taken to advance religious freedom, respect, inclusion, and tolerance.  Bangladesh’s secular constitution and policies protect religious freedom, which is a key element of a stable, democratic Bangladesh.
The report also mentions areas in which more progress can be made to realize the country’s ideals.
“We publish these reports around the world as a diplomatic tool to reinforce the expectation that all countries protect religious freedom,” the US embassy said in a statement in Dhaka on Tuesday.
“This is consistent with Bangladesh’s commitments under the 1948 Universal Declaration on Human Rights and obligations under the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights,” it noted.
