Washington, DC (BBN)- U.S. Science Envoy Bernard Amadei will travel to Pakistan March 24-29, an official announcement said on Friday.
On his first trip as an envoy, Dr. Amadei will visit Islamabad and Lahore. While there, he will meet senior- level government officials and representatives from the academic, engineering and non-governmental organization (NGO) communities to promote cooperation and achieve mutual goals in science and technology.
He will also meet participants in the U.S. Department of State-sponsored Global Innovation through Science and Technology (GIST) Initiative, and the local chapter of Engineers without Borders to encourage students and practitioners to focus on engineering for sustainable development.
President Obama announced the U.S. Science Envoy Program in Cairo on June 4, 2009. Since the program’s inception, six of America’s finest scientists have traveled to 19 countries on behalf of the U.S. government to promote international partnerships through scientific collaboration.
Dr. Bernard Amadei is the Mortenson Endowed Chair in Global Engineering and is a Professor of Civil Engineering at the University of Colorado at Boulder.
Among his many distinctions, Dr. Amadei is the founding president of Engineers Without Borders and is an elected member of the U.S. National Academy of Engineering.
