US Acting Deputy Assistant Secretary of State for South and Central Asia Michael S Owen concluded his visit to Bangladesh on Thursday.

During his visit, Mr. Own met with political leaders, business people and members of civil society. He also visited two key U.S. government-sponsored programs to hear directly from participants and beneficiaries.

During his stay, the U.S. official visited one of the 320 Smiling Sun clinics funded by the US Agency for International Development that provide family planning, maternal health services and child health care services.

“These USAID-supported clinics are located across Bangladesh and provide essential services to more than 20 million people, almost 17 percent of the total national population,” a U.S. embassy press statement said.

He also visited a USAID funded HIV/AIDS Health Center called “Modhumita,” at Kuril in the capital, Dhaka.
