Dhaka, Bangladesh (BBN)- US stocks finished the week with moderate gains. Both the Dow and NASDAQ closed at levels not seen since 2008 while the S&P ended at a six-month high as investors anticipated more US monetary easing would support the global economy.
Over the week, the Dow Jones Industrial Average (DJI) rose 88.85 points or 0.80 percent to 11,215.13. The NASDAQ Composite Index (IXIC) gained 37.01 points or 1.46 percent over the same period, a weekly review report said.
Japan’s Nikkei 225 index fell down over the week. On Monday, Nikkei hit a fresh seven-week low, pressured by JPY’s strength near a record high against USD and a drop in shares of Honda Motors.
At the end of the week Nikkei rose 2.2 percent on a wave of short-covering as investors took heart from solid US economic data.
The BSE Sensex (BSESN) rose 427.83 points or 2.1 percent on Thursday to a record closing high, boosted by a stellar trading debut by Coal India and a fresh round of US stimulus.
