New York, NY (BBN)- U.S. stocks slumped to a weak finish on Monday as lingering worries about the economy overcame optimism from a fresh round of corporate deal making.
The Dow Jones Industrial Average lost 39.21 points or 0.4 percent to close at 10,174.41 while the Nasdaq Composite index lost 20.13 points or 0.9 percent to 2,159.63, according to reports.
On the other hand, Japan's Nikkei average fell below 9,000 points for the first time in 15 months on Tuesday, as concerns mounted over authorities' inaction on a strong Japanese Yen (JPY) that threatened the fragile economic recovery.
Falls in Nikkei helped buoy the JPY to a nine year high of 107.21 against the Euro (EUR).
