Dhaka, Bangladesh (BBN) – The Bangladesh Taka (BDT) weakened against the US Dollar (USD) by BDT 2.00 per USD in last week’s trading.

The week started with the USD/BDT trading between 78.60 and 79.40 range, treasury officials said.

On Tuesday, the USD/BDT broke the psychological 80.00 level to trade between 79.95 and 80.30 range in direct trading, they added.

The US currency strengthened further and the local currency on the following two days to end the week between 80.45 – 80.60 range on Thursday, the last working day of the week.

“The BDT has been under pressure, leading to its depreciation in recent days against the US dollar mainly due to higher demand for the greenback for settlement of outstanding import letters of credit (LCs),” a senior treasury official of a commercial bank told BBN in Dhaka on Friday.
