Dhaka, Bangladesh (BBN)- The Government of Bangladesh has initiated ‘Leveraging ICT for Growth, Employment and Governance Project which aims to enhance the growth of Bangladesh’s IT/ITES industry for employment generation and export diversification.
The project also aims to establish basic e-Government foundations to support public sector modernization, the World Bank said on Thursday.  
The project will lead to the creation of an estimated 30,000 direct jobs in the IT and ITES sectors, which has the potential to create up to 30,000 direct jobs. It is expected that the IT and ITES industry revenue will increase by over USD 200 million by the end of the initiative.
 A recent World Bank and the Government team jointly reviewed the progress and noted that the key activities of the project are already contracted, in the process of contract finalization, or initial phase of implementation. The World Bank also urged to make BCC’s Project Coordination Unit (PCU) effective.
The World Bank team noted that the Project implementation is now on track. The World Bank is providing US$ 63.52 million for the Project, which is scheduled to close on December 2017.
