Dhaka, Bangladesh (BBN) – Prices of essentials especially vegetables decreased in the city’s kitchen markets as people who left the capital for village homes during Eid vacation are yet to come back.
But prices of chicken, mutton and beef maintained the earlier high trend, traders said, adding that demand for vegetables is lower as all people are yet to return to Dhaka.
A retailer in the city’s Kawran Bazar said brinjal, chilli, cucumber and tomato prices came down in different kitchen markets of the capital city.
The green chilli was retailing at BDT 60- BDT 80 a kg which was BDT 90-BDT 100, brinjal at BDT 25-BDT 30 against BDT 50, tomato at BDT 80-90 against BDT 100-BDT 120 and cucumber at BDT 25-BDT 30 which was BDT 40 just before the Eid.
Per kg of broiler chicken was selling between BDT 170 and BDT 180 Friday which was BDT 150 during last month.
Beef was selling at BDT 280-BDt 290 per kg and mutton at BDT 425- BDT 450 per kg.
However, the prices of edible oil, rice and sugar were stable in the market.
Egg prices ranged from BDT 35 to BDT 36 for every four pieces.
However rice and flour prices also remained steady.
Fish prices also remained high. A pair of medium-sized hilsha was selling at BDT 1200-1600, ruhi at BDT 250-BDT 300 per kg, ‘katla’ at BDT 230-BDT 260 per kg, ‘tengra’ at BDT 350-BDT 450 per kg, ‘poa’ and ‘magur’ at BDT 600 per kg, ‘pangas’ at BDT 80-BDT 110 per kg, ’tilapia’ at BDT 130-BDT 150 per kg and shrimp at BDT 300-BDT 650 per kg.
