Vegetables prices mark fresh hike in Bangladesh’s capital

Dhaka, Bangladesh (BBN)- Prices of vegetables and egg marked a fresh hike in the city' kitchen markets, while those of other essentials including powdered milk were still selling at higher prices, traders said.

Prices of all kinds of vegetables witnessed a fresh hike by BDT 5-10 per kg. Brinjal, patal, ladies finger, bitter gourd and ridge gourd ranged between BDT 40-45 per kg, chilli at BDT 40-50 and green papay at BDT 40 per kg.

Egg prices ranged between BDT 34-35 for every four pieces. Fish prices maintained the earlier high trend except shrimp which prices increased by BDT 50-100 per kg and ranged between BDT 350-650 per kg.

Ginger was selling at BDT 70-100 per kg up by BDT 10 per kg compared to that of previous week. Trading Corporation of Bangladesh data showed that ginger prices witnessed an upward trend by 18.52 percent in a month.

The local garlic was traded at BDT 60-65 per kg, while the prices of big-sized imported variety ranged from BDT 90 to Tk100 per kg.

TCB data said prices of garlic decreased by 22.45 percent in a month.

Prices of both local and imported Indian onion increased BDT 2-3 per kg in a week. Local onion was selling at BDT 28-30 and prices of imported Indian varieties of onion ranged from BDT 26 to BDT 27 per kg.

Prices of local onion decreased by 3.64 percent and the imported variety by over 10 per cent in a month, the TCB said.

Loose flour (Atta) price was hovering at BDT 33-34and every packet of two-kilo flour at BDT 78. On the other hand, loose flour (maida) ranged from BDT 42 to 44 per kg and in packets BDT 46-48 per kg.

Loose soybean oil was selling at BDT 110-114 per litre, palm oil BDT 74-Tk 76 and super palm BDT 78-80.

Soybean in one-litre bottle was priced at BDT 130-BDT 135 and in five-litre bottle BDT 655-BDT 670.

Local lentil was selling at BDT 110-115 up by BDT 5.0 per kg and the imported variety BDT 120-135. The mung variety was selling at BDT 120-130 per kg.

But the medium-sized lentil imported from Turkey and Canada maintained the earlier high trend and the prices ranged from BDT 80-85 per kg. The TCB data showed that the local varieties increased by 6.32 and 3.4.76 per cent over the month.

Minicate and BR 28 varieties of rice prices decreased by BDT 1-2, while others varieties maintained the earlier high trend.

The Minicate rice was selling at BDT 44-48 and Nazirshail BDT 45-50 per kg. The medium varieties of rice including Paizam and Lata ranged from BDT 34 to 44 and IRRI BDT 30-32 per kg.

Beef was selling at Tk 280 per kg, mutton Tk 450-Tk 480 and poultry birds Tk 145-Tk 150.
