Dhaka, Bangladesh (BBN) – Vietnam is eager to increase political and economic relations with Bangladesh in the up-coming days.
Newly-appointed Ambassador of Vietnam Nguyen Quang Thug said this while presenting his credentials to President M Zillur Rahman at Bangabhaban in the capital Dhaka on Monday.
Welcoming the new envoy, the President said excellent bilateral relations that exist between Bangladesh and Vietnam is time-tested and rooted in the rich common heritage and cultural affinity.
He said the ideal and principle of Vietnam and Bangladesh are similar as both the countries achieved their independence and sovereignty through bloody liberation war.
The President said the present government is committed to further develop and strengthen the existing bonds of friendship and cooperation with Vietnam.
The Vietnamese envoy apprised the President that export volume of Bangladesh to Vietnam doubled in last one year. “This increasing trend of export of Bangladeshi products to Vietnam would continue in the days to come,” he said.
The envoy said his country is eager to import more Bangladeshi pharmaceuticals, jute and jute goods and ceramics considering their world standard quality.
He lauded the recent economic growth of Bangladesh and hoped that Bangladesh would become a middle-income country soon.
Thug also lauded the leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and her development programs and assured the President that he would put in his best efforts to increase economic and investment relations between Bangladesh and Vietnam. 
Secretaries concerned of the President’s office and high officials of the foreign ministry were present on the occasion.
