Lima, Peru (BBN)– Kyle Peters, the senior vice president of World Bank, has met Bangladesh Finance Minister AMA Muhith and discussed on the new financing commitments amounting to US$ 1.9 billion.
The Peters-Muhith discussion came on the
sidelines of the IMF-World Bank Annual Meetings in Lima, the capital of Peru, on October 10.
“They discussed the World Bank’s growing portfolio in Bangladesh, which in FY15-16 included new financing commitments amounting to US$ 1.9 billion and disbursements of almost $1 billion,” said a press statement of the World Bank.
During the meeting, they also discussed the government’s progress in advancing various reforms.
The reforms include in the areas of taxation, standards, and companies, that are intended to improve the investment climate and that, if passed, could be supported by a World Bank development policy operation, the statement added.
At one stage of the discussion, Peters also expressed his intention to visit Bangladesh in the near future.
