Savar labour unrest: 121 of a factory sacked
An apparel factory today sacked 121 “troublemakers” and pasted their photographs on the notice board as labour unrest in the industrial belt of Savar continues for the 11th straight day today. Windy Apparels Limited, from where the agitation allegedly began and spread to elsewhere, had sacked the 121 workers, a local correspondent reports from the spot.
Bangladesh Taka appreciates by 6 paisa against US dollar at customer level
Dhaka, Bangladesh (BBN) – The Bangladesh Taka (BDT) appreciated by nearly six paisa against the US dollar at customer level on Tuesday. The average exchange rate of the US dollar at customer level came down to BDT 79.7240 on Tuesday from BDT 79.7825 of the previous level. It was BDT 79.8133 on Sunday.
Rupee trading strong at 67.90
Mumbai, India (BBN) – The rupee is trading strong at 67.90 on fresh selling of the American currency by exporters and banks amid a firm domestic equity market.Forex dealers said that besides selling of the American currency by exporters and banks, dollar’s weakness against other currencies overseas supported the rupee, reports The Hindu Business Line.
Sensex edges higher by 48 points
Mumbai, India (BBN) - The Nifty and the Sensex edged higher after five consecutive sessions of declines, in line with Asian shares following a record-breaking session on Wall Street overnight.
At 12:37pm, the 30-share BSE index Sensex was up 47.63 points or 0.18 per cent at 26,355.61 and the 50-share NSE index Nifty was up 12.7 points or 0.16 per cent at 8,095.10, reports The Hindu Business Line.
