Kolkata, India (BBN)- The West Bengal cabinet has cleared road projects worth Rs 13.77 billion for developing roads that connects the state with three neighbouring countries.

Officials from the state secretariat said that the decision to approve the project and the funding was taken in the last state cabinet meeting to widen and develop roads that connects Bangladesh, Bhutan and Nepal with West Bengal.
This will further give a boost in developing industry, tourism and new employment opportunities in the state, particularly in the North Bengal region, the Times of India reported.

According to plans, the state PWD will be supervising the project. Two major roads from Jaigaon to Changrabandha which is a 107 kilometer long stretch and from Fulbari to Panitanki that is 43 kilometer long will be taken up. The government wants the project to be implemented as soon as possible.

The state government has been working to develop road network across the state. Chief minister Mamata Banerjee recently posted on her Facebook page that the state has secured first position among other states in strengthening rural connectivity. The rural connectivity project was launched to develop more than 16,000 kilometers of roads in all the 3,349 gram panchayats across the state.
